TRANSITIONS
New Year’s Day has gone so fast though it’s a day of walks in the cold, catnaps, snacks, thoughts on the year behind and the year ahead.
It’s a transitional day, neither here nor there.
I have thought a lot more about transitions this year; it’s actually an important topic. Indy’s transition across the rainbow bridge of course drove a lot of this mood. But it’s come up throughout the year.
Physical movements involve a lot of transitions, as I noticed thanks to the pros at Athletico who helped me recover from two injuries, one serious, one not so. Transitions like sitting down and up, standing up from the floor or seated positions, movements ahead, behind, sideways, over curbs, up and down hills, from smooth surface to tricky gravel or uneven hiking terrain. Transitions can go bad unless handled carefully.
Life is full of transitions, of course, many big, like divorce, job changes, marriage, and many that are too minor to register at the time.
Then there are technology transitions, like, say, mechanical movements in watches to quartz, or analog to digital in just about everything.
The transitions of life and death tend to draw our attention more, of course, and produce lasting after-effects, but the whole subject of transitions is worth a lot more attention from each one of us.
